Jon Einar Vaernes is an observer to the Board of Directors for Renewable Energy Holdings (Pty) Ltd. He is representing Norfund, a Norwegian investment fund.
Jon Einar has worked 45 years within hydropower development and operation. He spent six years at NEBB (now ABB) in construction of hydro power plants, then seventeen years at Sor Trondelag Power Company in Norway responsible for development and later operation and maintenance of Orkla Hydro Power Scheme with five power plants and three reservoirs (1250 GWh and 318 MW). Jon Einar has spent several years on international hydro power development in Tanzania (Pangani), Uganda (Bugoye) and Chile (La Higuera).
From 1997 to 2007 he was CEO of Powel in Norway, an IT company with specific software solutions for hydro power operation and grid operation as well as maintenance. From 2007 onwards he was Vice President at Tronder Energi with responsibility international activities until he retired in 2013.
He is educated as an electrical engineer with a degree of Master of Science from Technical University in Trondheim Norway (NTH).
